Dear Friend,

Careful monitoring of violations of freedom of expression is at the heart of our mission. Our researchers have just finished compiling the annual roundup for 2012 and the number of deaths is unprecedented.

With a one-third rise in the number of journalists killed in connection with their work over 2011, and a record number of journalists in prison, persecution of media personnel has rarely posed such a major threat to freedom of expression!

As we have said in previous emails, behind every journalist or blogger killed or imprisoned, there is often a family that is also in danger.

Only your donations will enable us to protect the men, women and children who are the victims of censorship and arbitrary persecution!

In an effort to prevent 2013 from being such a dark year for freedom of information as 2012, I count on your support as a matter of urgency.
